The world of showbiz has always been criticized for the demands of unrealistic beauty standards. Yami Gautam, who made them Bollywood Debuting with a leading role in Shoojit Sircar’s romantic comedy Vicky Donor, she believes that changing one’s physical appearance should always be a personal decision rather than a professional necessity to secure more work. Yami has revealed that she herself was once advised to undergo plastic surgery. ‘Don’t follow – to get a nose job.

“I was advised to get a nose job! I have a ‘pakoda’ nose and someone told me to do something about it. But I flatly refused,” she says.

The actress further added that she is struck by people’s fascination with beauty standards and thinks it is time to break the vicious cycle of actors being pushed to change their looks to get more work. “What drives people’s obsession with other people’s faces?” There are girls who take it seriously. I feel very bad because you have to watch yourself and work every day. Sometimes if something goes wrong… I mean, it is a personal choice, to each their own, I am no one to comment on anyone else. But I think it is not right, if you want to do something then it should be your choice. It shouldn’t come from someone, that, ‘Oh, this is what you need to do so you’ll get cast or look better.’ I do not agree with all those things.

On the work front, Yami has a busy 2022 with films like Daasvi and A Thursday, and begins the year with the ZEE5 thriller Lost. Recently, he also starred in Netflix heist thriller Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga, directed by Ajay Singh, alongside Sunny Kaushal.
