Yellen: In China, Yellen urges ‘direct’ talks, climate cooperation – Times of India

Beijing: Washington and Beijing Must communicate “directly” on concerns about specific economic practices, US Treasure Secretary Janet Yellen said on Saturday, urging greater cooperation despite strained relations between the world’s two biggest economies.
Yellen is on a four-day visit to Beijing as the United States seeks to expand areas of cooperation and ease tensions between the two countries.
In a meeting with Vice Premier He Lifeng on Saturday, he cited the record of bilateral trade last year as evidence of how interconnected they are. “There is enough room for our companies to engage in trade and investment,” he told them at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. “Where we have concerns about specific economic practices, we should communicate with them directly and we will.”
His bilateral meeting with them lasted for about five hours and was followed by dinner. A Treasury statement said he raised issues of concern in “frank” talks discussing the US vision of healthy economic competition.
