Naimisharanya… is made up of 2 words. Naimih and Aranya. Naimish means to bury something sharp on the ground. The forest is called Aranya. Lord Brahma had made this place by burying his mind in the ground. 88 thousand sages did penance at this place. It is said that one who takes a bath in Naimisharanya’s Chakratirtha once, attains salvation.

Just before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, SP and BJP are also moving towards this land of salvation for their political revival. Naimisharanya of Sitapur, 80 kilometers away from Lucknow, has now become the new religious center of politics. Everyone’s focus is here. Why is it like this? What is the reason? How did Naimisharanya suddenly appear? Is starting politics from here a guarantee of victory for the parties? Dainik Bhaskar’s team reached Naimisharanya to know all such questions.

  • Let us know the political significance of this religious city.

Whoever came, his bag was filled…
The year was 1993… Mulayam Singh Yadav became the CM of UP for the second time. Mulayam reached Naimisharanya after 6 months. He went to the Math and took the blessings of the Mahants. During that time, Om Prakash Gupta was the MLA from Misrikh seat (in which Naimisharanya Dham comes). MLA Om Prakash got the villages under 84 Kosi Yatra stages developed in Misrikh region. Got the old dilapidated monasteries of Naimisharanya beautified. Seeing the government development schemes, people’s trust increased. The effect of this was that from the year 1993 to 2012, no one could defeat the SP on the Misrikh seat.

2012… Akhilesh became the CM of UP. SP won the Naimisharanya seat for the fifth time in a row. SP MLA Rampal Rajvanshi won by 61,346 votes. Akhilesh reached Naimisharanya in 2015 to express his gratitude to the public. He inaugurated Shri Adichunchan Giri Mahasansthan Math. Distributed cycles to labourers, laptops to students and Samajwadi pension to the elderly. In 2017, the BJP made a dent in Naimisharanya, which was in the possession of SP for 27 years. MLA Ramakrishna Bhargava won. People liked his work, so even in 2022 BJP won the Misrikh seat by a record 90,000 votes.

Mahant Chandan Dixit of Vyas Gaddi in Naimisharanya says, “It is true that the development here started during the Samajwadi regime only. Rampal Rajvanshi, who was the SP MLA from here from 2012 to 2017, did a good job for the development of the Maths. Special bus service from Naimish to Lucknow also started in the Akhilesh government. New roads were built. Now the current Yogi government is developing here on the same lines. Under this, a grand corridor like Kashi, Ayodhya is being constructed here.

Akhilesh arrived after 42 days of Yogi’s visit, the statements of both are similar
Why BJP and SP are focusing on Naimisharanya before the Lok Sabha elections? First of all, to understand this, consider 2 incidents. First: CM Yogi held a huge public meeting in Naimisharanya on April 28, 2023 before the formation of Naimisharanya Development Council and body elections. Second: After 42 days of Yogi’s public meeting, Akhilesh also reached Naimisharanya. He started the training camp at Naimish.

On April 28, BJP held a huge public meeting in Misrikh Lok Sabha seat of Sitapur. CM Yogi Adityanath directly raised the issue of development of Naimisharanya in the meeting. Beginning the speech, he said, “Kashi has shone. A grand Shri Ram temple is being constructed in Ayodhya. The work of rejuvenating Mathura-Vrindavan is going on. Now it is the turn of Naimisharanya. Our government is going to rejuvenate Naimisharanya like Kashi Vishwanath Dham and make Lalita Devi Corridor here. This will increase religious tourism here, due to which employment opportunities will be created on a large scale in every field.”

Describing the elections as ‘Devasur Sangram’, Yogi said that Maharishi Dadhichi from this land of Naimisharanya had given his bones to make Vajra for the victory of divine powers. Similarly, this is the time to teach a lesson to the corrupt, miscreants, mafia and criminals in the form of demons in elections.

After 42 days… Akhilesh also reached Naimisharanya. He visited the Lalita Devi temple and made a strategic announcement to start preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. During this, he told the media, “The demon is the one who tortures. I have come here to pray to save the public from today’s demons.” This statement of Akhilesh was considered as a counterattack on Yogi’s ‘demon’ statement.

‘Naimish-Prem’ means…the struggle to win the hearts of Brahmin voters
Social worker Rajesh Chaturvedi, a resident of Naimisharanya, says, “Whatever the party may be… coming to Naimish means worshiping the Brahmin voters here. Akhilesh’s mission-2024 was also done for the same purpose. The SP first went to Lakhimpur, the city of Gola Gokarnath. Then there was a big program at Naimisharanya, the abode of sages. It is clear from this that before the Lok Sabha elections, the SP is trying to reach out to the Brahmin voters. On the other hand, the BJP By making Lalita Devi Corridor and Naimisharanya Vikas Parishad, she is trying to win the hearts of the Brahmins here.”

Misrikh Lok Sabha seat has 85% Brahmin voters. This place is spread over an area of 305 square kilometers. It has an average literacy rate of 65% and a population of 1,90,334. In the Lok Sabha Elections-2019, BJP won from here with 5,34,429 votes. Ashok Kumar Rawat became MP.

The one who bowed his head on Chakratirtha became invincible
After talking to the sages of Pyaasgaddi, we reached Chakratheertha, the biggest attraction in Naimisharanya. This is the same cycle, about which it is believed that Lord Brahma himself manifested it on earth to save sages from demons. Since then till today this cycle is in this pool. Its water comes from Patal Lok, which never dries up. The importance of this cycle is very high from the religious point of view. By touching its water, the wish is fulfilled. This is the reason why from Yogi to Akhilesh, whenever they come to Naimisharanya, they definitely bow down to this chakra once.

Lakshmi Narayan Tiwari, the priest of Chakratheertha, says, “Many parties came here, many announcements were made but no development was visible on the ground. But ever since the Yogi government has come, development is flowing in Naimish. Arrangements are being made to sit on the platform. The announcements made are visible on the ground. That’s why the Sant Samaj here is with the BJP.”

Tourism will increase due to the construction of corridor, jobs will be available
After the formation of Naimisharanya Development Council in November 2022, the government took a big decision. It was announced to build a corridor like Kashi Vishwanath around the Siddha Peeth Maa Lalita Devi temple here. The road leading from the temple to Chakrateerth is 16 meters wide, on which shopkeepers have encroached. In view of this, shopkeepers around the Lalita Devi temple have been given notice to vacate their shops.
Before getting the corridor constructed, the administration has also taken permission after meeting the monks and saints of the monasteries.

The area near Chakrateerth is being vacated for the construction of the corridor.

We spoke to Vipin Kumar Chaturvedi, a tourist guide who has been taking pilgrims to Naimish for the past 15 years. Vipin says, “Every year more than 50 lakh people come to Naimish for darshan. 60% of them are tourists from the state. Darshan was stopped here in Kovid. This affected tourism for 2 years. But things are coming back on track from 2022. Now the construction of the corridor is going to start here before the Lok Sabha elections. The construction of the corridor will boost tourism here. Employment opportunities will be created for the people.”

  • Let us now finally know the religious importance of Naimisharanya as well…

Lord Rama performed Ashwamedh Yagya in Naimish
Naimisharanya Dham has special importance in Hinduism. It is also mentioned in Vishnu Purana and Markandeya Purana. The Char Dham Yatra is considered incomplete without the darshan of Naimish. According to the Puranas, this pilgrimage site has been famous as the abode of sages and sages. It is said that at this place Suta, the disciple of Ved Vyas, the author of Mahabharata narrated the story of Kaurava-Pandava to 88 thousand sages.

Naimish’s priest Laxmikant Maharaj says, “Naimisharanya is also mentioned in the Ramayana. It was here that Lord Rama performed the Ashwamedha Yagya. Maharishi Dadhichi donated his bones to Indra for public welfare. It was described by Brahma himself as the most suitable place for sages to perform penance.”

In terms of tourism, Naimisharanya is the main religious place of UP. There is an interesting history associated with the Bhuteshwarnath Mahadev Temple built on Chakratirtha. It is said that Lord Brahma established the Shivling here. It is believed that the Shivling established here changes its form thrice a day. Shivling looks like a child in the morning. At 12 noon, the Shivling turns into a fierce form. While at 6 in the evening its shape changes into the kind form of Shiva.
