YouTube is testing its unreleased features with the Premium users
The new experimental feature on YouTube is only accessible to people who are on YouTube Premium since it is an experimental feature.
YouTube is always working on improving the user experience, and they frequently release new features to enhance the viewing experience. And yet again, it has rolled out a new feature to a small set of users. This latest experiment is called ‘jump ahead,’ which makes it easier for users to jump to certain parts of the YouTube video.
YouTube users who use the app on Android or iOS are acquainted with the double-tap skip feature, where tapping twice in succession moves will move you 10 seconds ahead in the video. YouTube’s new experimental jump-ahead feature is similar to the 10-second skip feature, except that it analyses user data and uses machine learning to automatically pick points of interest in a clip.
Basically, if you double-tap to skip a little in a video, users will see a prompt saying “jump ahead” on the YouTube video. Tapping that will allow YouTube to suggest that section in the video that numerous people gravitate to and bring users to the next point of interest in the video.
For example, you’re watching a collection of satisfying video clips, and the most satisfying clip is what was shown in the thumbnail. So, YouTube will automatically suggest that point in the video when you are jumping ahead.
“The way it works is, if a viewer is double tapping to skip ahead on an eligible segment, we’ll show a jump ahead button that will take them to the next point in the video that we think they’re aiming for. This feature will also be available to creators while watching their own videos,” YouTube creator-centric channel Creator Insider explained.
This feature is only accessible to people who are on YouTube Premium since it is an experimental feature. So, if you have a Premium membership, you can try these features using both the mobile app and the desktop.
Firstly, you can visit the official YouTube experiments website on your desktop. Users who are using the mobile app should launch the app. Then, click on your profile picture, navigate to the settings, and scroll down to the Try Experimental Features section. You’ll see an option to activate that and other experimental features. It is important to note that these experimental features are only available for a limited time.
According to 9to5Google, YouTube stated that this is a small experiment currently available in the US.
