Police said the attack took place around 7.30 pm on Sunday when the last round of the ‘striking car ride’ was underway. The last round of the tour had been completed and officials announced that those still waiting in line should leave as the park was about to close for the day.
However, a group of 10 people from Kamarhati demanded they be allowed to ride and a brawl ensued.
Police said more family members, some of whom were also riding, came out and began attacking the announcing officer, until park security guards came to his rescue and called police.
The police took the officer to Bidhannagar sub-divisional hospital for treatment and arrested five people, identified by the guards, for assaulting the officer.
