Kolkata: A nine year old girl, Anita Besra from Fagu in Jharkhand, who is completely blind, miraculously survived after falling from the third floor terrace of her hostel on Tuesday night. The incident took place around 9.45 pm at a privately run residential school for the blind located in Kabardanga area of ​​Haridevpur in south-west Kolkata.
LKG student Besra has been living here for the last three years. She went to the terrace after dinner with 20 other girls. While the others return to their rooms after a while, Anita unknowingly stays behind. When the girl tried to go towards the ladder, she fell from the terrace.
according to the school principal Kaberi DasThe victim was among 21 people who went to the terrace after dinner. Around 9:30 pm, the attendant called everyone downstairs and said she was closing the terrace door.
“When everyone had left, he rang to see if anyone was still on the roof. Hearing no response, he assumed everyone had left and closed the door. The child who was left behind tried to find a way to get down. We have a wall on our terrace, and it appears she climbed over it and fell on the first floor terrace. Her screams alerted us and when we found her, she was sitting up. We immediately took her to a local nursing home and then to SSKM Hospital, where she underwent a CT scan. The doctors discharged him saying that his condition was fine. It is nothing less than a miracle for all of us,” said Das.
Police sources said that the girl belongs to a poor family and her mother and grandmother are at home. “The child is doing well now. Till last year, she stayed here with us even during the summer vacations. She has gone home for the first time this year,” said Das. According to the police, the family will be informed at the appropriate time.
