Chief Minister of Assam on Uniform Civil Code:
On the issue of Uniform Civil Code, the Assam CM said that every Muslim woman voter will vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 15 to 20 years from now.
“I predict, 15 to 20 years from now, every Muslim female voter will vote for BJP, because we have abolished ‘triple talaq’ and we will certainly abolish polygamy. Even Prophet Muhammad, whom Muslims worship as a ‘prophet’, was also in favor of monogamy. On polygamy, the Prophet said, it could be done only with the consent of the existing wives. The Directive Principles of State Policy are clarified in our Constitution. Roop says that we should bring a common civil code, which we will definitely implement,” Sarma said.
