Anil John Sequeira becomes civil judge at 25 | Mangaluru News – Times of India

Mangaluru: Anil John Sequeira, hailing from Borimar village of Bantwal taluk here, has been selected to the post of civil judge by direct recruitment in accordance with the Karnataka Judicial Services (Recruitment) Rules, at the young age of 25. He is one among the 33 candidates selected as suitable for the post of civil judges, in the order of merit, prepared on the basis of marks secured in the competitive written exam held during Nov 2023 and viva-voce, according to a notification of Friday, from the Registrar General and Secretary, Civil Judges Recruitment Committee, High Court of Karnataka.
Anil, an LLB graduate from SDM Law College, Mangaluru, told TOI, “My father wanted me to be a judge, so was also my aim to get to that coveted post.” His father Everest Sequeira, is an agriculturist and mother Ivy Sequeira, a homemaker.He is the youngest of the three children of the couple after his brother Ashwin and sister Ashna. Anil said he is the second person from Borimar to get to the post after Manohar Poojari.
Anil had demonstrated academic excellence throughout his educational journey. He studied at St Joseph Higher Primary School in Borimar, followed by Karnataka High School, Mani and did his PU education at St Philomena PU College, Puttur. Anil said he had taken a break from practise and prepared for the examination from the past two years. He cleared it in his second attempt.
An active member of the Mangalore Bar Association, where he has been practising as a civil lawyer alongside legal professionals Deepak D’Souza and Naveen S Pais, he was also an active Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) member, where he served as the ICYM president of Mangalore Diocese in 2022.
He said his achievement should inspire fellow ICYM members. His brother Ashwin said parents were reluctant to send their children to ICYM, thinking it was unproductive. “This should make them realise how it has shaped my brother and also can shape the future of other youth too,” he added.
