Apple has now begun accepting applications for its Vision Pro developer kit, which will allow developers to build apps and experiences for the headset.

Apple caused a stir in the tech world when it introduced its mixed reality headset—the Vision Pro, which the iPhone maker calls a “spatial computer.” It is expected to be Apple’s most important launch since the Apple Watch in 2015. The iPhone maker has now started accepting applications for its Vision Pro developer kit, which will allow developers to build apps and experiences for the headset.

As The Verge reports, Apple is now accepting applications from interested developers to “loaner” Vision Pro developer kits.

Apple said, “We will loan you a Vision Pro developer kit to prepare your app for the launch of the new App Store on Vision Pro.” And with the kit, developers can also take advantage of assistance setting up the device, guidance from Apple experts for UI design and development, and two “code-level support requests” to help developers troubleshoot their code. Developers will also have to return their Vison Pro developer kits if Apple asks.

According to Apple, the kits will let developers build, iterate and test on the Vision Pro.

Apple has also listed several requirements that must be met in order to be eligible for the Developer Kit. First, you must be an account holder in the Apple Developer Program and second, provide information about the skills of your development team and any existing apps.

Apple also mentioned that it would give priority to developers who are “working on building an app that takes advantage of VisionOS features and capabilities.” This means that any developer who wants to build a native app from scratch will find it easier to get Apple’s attention.

The Apple Vision Pro will be available to consumers next year, but the exact release date is not yet known. The headset will cost $3499 and will be available only in the US, with availability to more countries later in 2024.
