Nagpur: A four-member committee formed to investigate the suicide of a 19-year-old BSc Nursing student of Govt Nursing College, Rutuja Bagade, has questioned 70 individuals, including fellow students and Rutuja’s parents on Thursday and Friday. The statements of nearly 30 individuals are still to be recorded, which means the inquiry will continue on Saturday too.The report is expected on Monday.
The college is housed on the campus of Govt Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Rutuja was found hanging in her hostel room on April 4. The incident sent shock waves through the college, prompting the administration to declare summer vacation early. Taking cognizance of the matter, the dean ordered an inquiry.

The four-member inquiry committee led by Dr Subhash Thackeray, professor of PSM Department at GMCH, on April 8 sent SMS to senior officials of the college, instructing students to be present at the college on April 10 for questioning.
The sudden announcement of summer vacation followed by the summons for questioning have reportedly caused resentment among student. Yet, they are appearing before the committee.
Sources said there are allegations that Rutuja was humiliated by a tutor in ward No. 7 on April 2, just a day before her suicide. The inquiry committee has reportedly not yet investigated this aspect, they said.
Neither the committee members nor GMCH officials were ready to speak on the record about the inquiry. They said the dean and senior officials will share the report with media and take action accordingly.
