Avoid gatherings, wear masks: Delhi Court to staff, lawyers as Covid cases rise

High Court asks employees and lawyers to wear masks as Covid cases rise in Delhi.

New Delhi:

The Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on Thursday directed all staff, litigants and lawyers to wear masks and avoid gathering in groups in the court premises.

The directive has been issued in the wake of rising number of Covid cases in the national capital, which recorded 1603 coronavirus cases and three deaths on Thursday.

The circular issued by HC Registrar General Ravindra Dudeja said, “The Chief Justice is pleased to order that due to the spurt in COVID-19 cases in NCT of Delhi, to prevent the spread of Covid cases, And to counter this, all concerned i.e., staff working in this Court and members of the Bar, including their employees and litigants, are directed to use face masks as a precaution at all times in the premises of this Court Please do not gather in large numbers. Numbers in general areas, wait for court block areas as far as possible and follow proper Covid protocol in letter and spirit to avoid further spread of the virus.”

It further states, “All Registrars/OSDs/Coordinators, DIAC/Joint Registrars (Judicial)/Private Secretaries to Hon’ble Chief Justice and Hon’ble Judges are hereby requested to ensure the instructions issued from time to time. Covid- 19 to be strictly followed by the officers/staff under their control to prevent the spread of the virus.”

Covid cases are increasing since last few days. In view of this, the Supreme Court has already given permission to the lawyers to appear through video conferencing.
