Many of Twitter’s high-profile users are losing the blue checks that help verify their identities and differentiate them from fraudsters
Elon Musk’s latest move to end the “lord and peasant” system on Twitter by removing the legacy blue tick has triggered a storm of mixed reactions from netizens across the globe.
People have taken to the internet to express their opinion on the new development, from legacy users to a few enthusiasts. Nonetheless, Twitter’s removal of the legacy blue tick has created an uproar.
“BREAKING: Twitter has removed the blue check mark from people who don’t pay for Twitter Blue. I understand Elon’s need to generate more revenue, but I personally think the blue check is grandfathered.” should be done.

Some Twitter users expressed concern that impostors may start impersonating their handles.
“No blue check, but it’s me. Don’t be fooled. Remember I have a 92 at the end of my handle. @Jack Quaid someone impersonated me in 2011. That’s why I got one in the first place.” Found Twitter. If only there was some kind of… free verification system,” Jack Quaid tweeted.

Notably, well-known users such as author Stephen King, who opposed paid blue, have somehow retained the blue check indicating the account was paid for verification.

Renowned British comedian Ricky Gervais also supported the blue tick debate, tweeting: “My blue tick is gone. I’m not sure if I’m really me or not.”
In a lighter vein, one user tweeted: “Looking for anyone who still has the blue tick.”
A Twitter handle went berserk after former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s blue tick was removed.
“Imran Khan without blue tick…!!! Oy, Elon Musky Kuch sharam kr haya kr,” Pak Lawyers Forum tweeted.
A user from India was amazed at how his account was verified while Shah Rukh Khan’s was not.
“I have a blue tick on my account, while the famous Bollywood Actor Shah Rukh doesn’t have one,” Kritika tweeted.
