Before WWDC 2023, Apple Will Roll Out iOS 16.6 Beta: Report

Apple will host the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event on June 5 where it will announce iOS 17 among other products. It is being said that before the event, the company can roll out iOS 16.6 beta update. According to a report by MacRumours, Apple has increased internal testing of iOS 16.6 over the past week. Citing a reliable source of information, the report states that the first beta version of the update will be rolled out to developers and public beta testers in the coming days.

The company has been internally testing iOS 16.6 since April this year. The update is expected to be one of the last updates iOS 16 Software Cycle, before the announcement of iOS 17 WWDC next month. iOS 16.6 is likely to be a minor update with general improvements and changes.

Meanwhile, Apple has already announced that iOS 16.5 will be released this week for iPhone users. Beta testing of iOS 16.5 has been going on since late March. There have been two notable updates and features revealed for the iPhone so far. An initial addition is a Sports tab integrated into the Apple News app, enabling users to easily access news, scores and schedules related to their favorite teams and leagues.

The report states that the second update empowers users to initiate screen recording via Siri. By simply saying “Hey Siri, start a screen recording”, users can capture a video of their iPhone’s screen and instruct Siri to stop recording when they want.

In addition, Apple has introduced its initial set of “quick security” patches that are publicly accessible. These patches are specifically designed to address security vulnerabilities that are being actively exploited or pose a significant threat to customer privacy and security.

Apple describes these patches, which are known as “Rapid Security Responses”, as critical security enhancements delivered between regular software updates.
