Bihar: Voting underway for urban local body elections in 23 districts amid tight security

Voting for the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections is being held in Bihar on Wednesday amid tight security.

Voting for the elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Bihar is being held today amid tight security. The polling began at 7 am and will end at 5 pm.

The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is among the 17 municipal corporations, two city councils and 49 city panchayats where polling is being held today.

A senior State Election Commission (SEC) official said the ULB results would be declared on December 30.

Over 61,94,000 voters (32,60,259 men and 29,34,317 women) are eligible to exercise their franchise in 1,529 wards in 23 districts including Patna, Gaya, Arrah, Purnia, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur, the official said.

The SEC has made elaborate arrangements for polling, including deployment of security personnel at 7,088 polling stations and 286 mobile polling stations in 23 districts. Officials said that webcasting is being done from all polling stations.
