Bjp Blames Dmk For Cauvery Water Row | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: The BJP has blamed the DMK government and its ally Congress, governing neighbouring Karnataka for the worsening Cauvery water sharing row.
BJP’s national women’s wing president Vanathi Srinivasan said in a statement posted on Twitter on Saturday that the DMK government should speak to its ally Congress, which is governing Karnataka to ensure water is released immediately. She warned that if water was not released, separatist forces would gain currency and there would be a threat to public peace and safety.
Vanathi said when BJP was ruling Karnataka, it was releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu regularly as per the Cauvery tribunal and the Supreme Court order. “Within a few months after Congress coming to power in Karnataka, however, the Cauvery water row has resurfaced,” she said.
Despite DMK holding a key position in the INDIA bloc, farmers of Tamil Nadu are unable to get water, she said. She alleged that the Congress government in Karnataka was inciting Pro-Kannada organisations to protest against the releasing of water. And, chief minister M K Stalin was focussed more on politics and the growth of his son Udhayanidhi Stalin, she alleged.

Pressure is mounting on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to initiate talks with his Tamil Nadu counterpart MK Stalin to resolve the Cauvery river water dispute. Opposition parties and farmer associations are demanding discussions to persuade Tamil Nadu not to press for the release of more water. However, Siddaramaiah and his cabinet colleagues have dismissed the suggestion, insisting that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention can help break the deadlock.
