Bjp Put An End To Bribe Culture In Assam: Cm Sarma | Guwahati News – Times of India

Dibrugarh: Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said the cash-for-job and bribe culture that was rampant during the Congress rule in Assam came to a stop after the BJP formed govt in the state in 2016.
Addressing a poll rally at Chabua in Dibrugarh district, Sarma said BJP govt’s strong action against corrupt officials, touts and middlemen has made govt jobs accessible to the youth without the need for bribery.
The CM added that during the Congress’s time, individuals seeking govt jobs had to pay cash or bribe officials. However, since the BJP formed govt, strong action has been taken against corrupt practices. He also said BJP govt has provided 1 lakh govt jobs to deserving candidates solely based on merit.
“Children of farmers, tea garden workers, vegetable sellers have got govt jobs. This was unimaginable earlier. Our govt is transparent and we have zero tolerance for corruption,” Sarma added. He reiterated plans to provide an additional 50,000 govt jobs to the youth next year.
The chief minister spoke about the progress Assam has made under the BJP’s reign, citing examples of big-ticket infrastructure projects, including the Bogibeel bridge, the Dhola-Sadiya bridge and the east-west corridor. He also announced plans to construct a 6-lane underwater tunnel across the Brahmaputra River and a 34-km-long four-lane elevated corridor in Kaziranga.
