He said, it will also throw light on how the administration acted in favor of one side and it was officially called into question before the Legislative Assembly.

The second adjournment motion would be moved on alleged atrocities against women in different parts of the state, especially the stripping and parading of two tribal women in Malda and the stripping and parading of a BJP gram sabha candidate at Panchla in Howrah district on July 8, the date of rural polling, he said.

“We will give notice for both the motions by this week so that it can be taken up at the earliest. Both the issues are serious,” he said.

To a question about TMC’s decision to move an adjournment motion manipur violenceMr. Adhikari said, “We will oppose this and demand the resolution to be canceled as the issue is being looked into by the Supreme Court.”

He said that the Speaker had earlier also rejected the petition of the saffron party on the same ground when it wanted to move an adjournment motion on the teacher recruitment scam. “There should not be two scales,” he insisted.

When asked for his comment, TMC deputy chief whip Tapas Roy told reporters that the BJP can move any resolution but it will have to follow proper technical procedure. He has to bring the proposal through the concerned House Committee, which he did not do.

The BJP skipped the all-party meeting called by the Speaker on Monday, the first day of the monsoon session, to discuss legislative matters during the ongoing session of the House.

Mr. Roy said, “It will be the prerogative of the Speaker to take a decision on the matter. But the BJP’s double allegations are a pack of lies as it has been inciting violence in the state since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and trying to disturb the peaceful scenario in Bengal.”

On the BJP’s stand on the Manipur issue, Mr. Roy said everyone knows what happened in the northeastern state. “The extent and enormity of the events in Manipur have shocked the conscience of the country. This has been unheard of since independence. If BJP leaders really love the country, they too should feel distressed and devastated and not remain in denial.”

“Also, the entire opposition is united in both the Houses of Parliament on the Manipur issue. Hence, the BJP leader’s statement on our decision regarding the adjournment motion on Manipur is of no use,” he said.
