‘BJP will bring similar ordinance…’: Kejriwal launches fresh attack on Center at Ramlila Maidan’s ‘sacred stage’ for mega rally

Returning to the Ramlila Maidan that saw the birth of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while addressing the party’s ‘Maha’ rally on Sunday. Against the Centre’s ordinance on control of services in the national capital.

Addressing a huge crowd that turned out in support of AAP’s campaign, Kejriwal termed the Centre’s ordinance as “dictatorship” and said today he is back on the “holy platform” to “drive out a dictator from the country”.

“Twelve years ago, we came here to fight against corruption. This is a sacred phase. Today we have come back here to oust a dictator from the country… This is a movement to end dictatorship, to bring back democracy.

The ordinance issued by the Center on May 19 established a National Capital Civil Services Authority, bringing back executive control over matters related to the services to its domain.

This was issued soon after a Supreme Court judgment on May 11, through which the Delhi government was given executive control over service-related matters, including transfers and postings of Delhi government officials, but not police, public Order and land.

Attacking the BJP-led central government for passing the ordinance despite the apex court’s verdict in favor of the elected government, Kejriwal said, “The Supreme Court said that democracy, as well as the will of the people, is supreme. The elected government, irrespective of the party it belongs to, should have the right to work. I want to ask whether the Supreme Court was wrong? Should the Prime Minister abide by the verdict? Modi ji said that I do not follow anyone. He passed an ordinance.”

“PM Modi’s ordinance says there will be dictatorship in Delhi. It says people are not supreme, the Lieutenant Governor (LG) is… people can vote for whomever they want, but the Center will run Delhi,” he said.

Claiming Delhi to be the first city to be attacked, Kejriwal said the BJP was planning to bring a similar ordinance for the rest of the country.

He said, “An ordinance like Delhi’s, which is like a declaration of dictatorship, will be brought in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh.”

He further said that Prime Minister Modi has been in power for the past 21 years—first for 12 years as the Chief Minister of Gujarat and then for nine years as the Prime Minister—whereas he has been in power for eight years as the Chief Minister of Delhi. have been

“Go and assess whether I did more work in eight years or PM Modi in 21 years…I built schools and hospitals, gave free treatment to people, gave good education to their children and free electricity,” he said. However, Modi ji said that I am distributing free Revd,” They said.

Kejriwal said, “Modi ji, meanwhile you have handed over the entire country and the entire central government to your friend.”

On the arrest of AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, he said they were arrested for stalling work in the national capital. “But we have 100 Sisodias and 100 Jains. They will continue the good work,” said the chief minister.

While former deputy chief minister Sisodia was arrested in February for alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the scrapped liquor policy for 2021-22, Jain was arrested in a money laundering case in May last year.

As he neared the end of his speech, he took a veiled dig at the Prime Minister’s educational qualification.

Kejriwal said, “Telling the story of a young boy born to poor parents, the sages said he would become a great king.” 2,000 rupee note, so he did it. After a few years, someone asked him to take the note back, and he did… He signed whatever paper he brought because he was afraid people would find out he couldn’t read. ,

He then asked people to share the story with others.

Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal also took part in AAP’s ‘Maha Rally’ on Sunday against the Centre’s ordinance on deregulation of services in the national capital.

Speaking on the occasion, Sibal said, “In the coming days, my aim will be to go to different places and tell people that the time has come, we need to unite and fight against PM Modi.”
