Jamal Khashoggi’s fiancee said Friday that Saudi Arabia’s prince had been able to take more victims after President Joe Biden met with the US leader and punched the man accused of ordering the journalist’s murder.
In what he imagined as a tweet from Khashoggi, Hatice Cengiz wrote to Biden, “Is this the accountability you promised for my murder? The blood of the next victim of MBS is in your hands. “
Saudi Arabia’s Khashoggi, who wrote critically of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in The Washington Post, was forced to enter the kingdom’s Istanbul consulate to fill out paperwork to marry Cengiz, Turkey, in October 2018. After that he was strangled to death.
Biden had vowed to make Saudi Arabia a “pariah” as a candidate, but traveled to Jeddah on Friday and was pictured clutching the de facto ruler of the oil-rich kingdom, the 36-year-old.
Fred Ryan, publisher and CEO of The Washington Post, demanded accountability for the death of his late contributor, saying, “The fist bump between President Biden and Mohammed bin Salman was worse than a handshake – it was shameful.”
“It anticipated a level of intimacy and comfort that provides unwanted redemption to MBS,” Ryan said in a statement.
