Busmitra Volunteers To Help Highlight Pmpml Users’ Woes | Pune News – Times of India

Pune: The city unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched the Busmitra initiative to highlight the problems faced by PMPML commuters, such as not halting the bus at the stop and infrastructure-related issues.
The volunteers are engaging with commuters on 10 different routes like Kothurd, Karve Road, Warje, Yerawada and Bopodi, and ensuring the public transport buses halt at the designated spaces and not in the middle of the road.
Chenthil Iyer, an AAP leader, said they will hand over the report to the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) administration. “Our teams are working on some vital points at bus stops, where they are urging bus drivers to stop buses at the designated spots. The teams are also restricting illegal halting of autorickshaws at bus stops as their presence prevents buses from reaching the stops,” he said.
The initiative will include 15 other locations at a later stage.
The AAP members also noted wrong-way driving by two-wheeler riders near bus stands, and they plan to approach the traffic police to act on the same.
AS Kulkarni, a frequent commuter, said bus stop sheds need attention at many locations. “Many people wait for buses in scorching heat. We often notice that buses skip a halt,” he said.
Vijay Kadam, another commuter, said the administration needs to ensure the buses ply on time.
“There should be small-sized buses on busy routes for faster travel,” he added.
