King Charles’s coronation is due to take place on 6 May at Westminster Abbey.

Camilla, wife of King Charles III, will wear the coronation gown made for Queen Elizabeth II when she is crowned Queen Consort on May 6. On Saturday, Buckingham Palace released new photos of the coronation robes King Charles and Camilla will wear for the ceremony at Westminster Abbey. ,

Following tradition, King Charles and Camilla will each wear two separate robes – the Robes of State and the Robes of Estate. According to IndependentWhile the Robes of State will be worn upon arrival at Westminster Abbey, the Robes of Estate will be worn as the couple leave at the end of the service.

The royal family’s official account shared a series of images of the robes on Instagram, writing, “A first look ahead of Coronation Day.”

Photos show the Royal School of Needlework’s embroidery team consecrating The King’s Robe of State, which will be worn by King Charles on arrival at Westminster Abbey, and Camilla’s Robe of Estate, which will be worn after her coronation.

According to IndependentThe King will wear his grandfather George VI’s robes of state and estates from his 1937 coronation, which are nearly 90 years old and have been preserved and prepared for the occasion. Camilla, on the other hand, will wear the late Queen’s Crimson Robe of State, which was made for Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953, and has been preserved with adjustments. It has a train of 5.5 meters.

A brand new robe of the estate has also been made for the Queen Consort to wear at the ceremony. The new robe has been designed in purple velvet to match the king. It is hand embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework.

The robe pays tribute to the king by including a delphinium – one of his favorite flowers which is also the flower of the month of Camilla’s birth – and includes the late queen’s favorite bloom, lily of the valley, in memory of Elizabeth II. It also includes national symbols – rose, thistle and shamrock.
