Karnataka Election 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security was allegedly breached during a mega roadshow in poll-bound Karnataka’s Mysore on Saturday (April 30). A mobile phone was hurled at PM Modi during his roadshow near KR Circle in Mysuru today.

In a video tweeted by news agency ANI, it can be seen that the mobile phone was falling on the bonnet of a specially designed vehicle for campaigning for the assembly elections. It was thrown at the vehicle and went unnoticed by the Prime Minister, who signaled the object to the Special Protection Group (SPG) officers who were accompanying him.

Police say there is no “bad intent”

Police, however, said the phone was thrown by a woman BJP worker in “provocation” with no “malice”. Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Alok said, “The prime minister was under SPG protection. The woman (whose phone fell on the PM’s vehicle) was a BJP worker. The SPG men later returned her.” Kumar told PTI. “It was thrown in provocation (of the incident) and had no (ill) intention, but we are trying to trace the woman as the SPG officials had handed over the phone to her,” he added.

The incident took place when Modi, along with Mysuru-Kodagu MP Prathap Simha and former ministers KS Eshwarappa and SA Ramadoss, was waving to a large number of people gathered on both sides of the road.

JD(S) is the ‘B-Team’ of Congress

Along with the mega roadshow, PM Modi kicked off his two-day election campaign in the poll-bound state with a mega roadshow in Mysuru and several public rallies. Addressing a rally in Belur, PM Modi attacked the Congress over “infighting” in the party, saying it has become its specialty wherever it is in power. The Prime Minister also targeted the JD(S), calling it the ‘B-team’ of the Congress.

He said, ‘This time Karnataka has decided to end the decades-old politics of manipulation. Both Congress and JD(S) are signs of instability. In the states where the Congress has been in power, its identity has been due to the rivalry of its leaders. You (people) are also seeing what is happening in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
