Hyderabad: At least 26 children hailing from West Bengal and Jharkhand, who were allegedly being brought to Hyderabad to work as laborers, were rescued and eight “traffickers” arrested, the Telangana police said on Thursday. got arrested.
Acting on information that children, aged between 13 and 18, were traveling with “smugglers” on the East Coast Express from Vijayawada to Secunderabad, a rescue operation was launched by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Women’s Security Wing on Wednesday. An official release said that the teams of GRP and RPF Secunderabad participated along with an NGO – Bachpan Bachao Andolan.
The accused, hailing from West Bengal and Jharkhand, admitted that they were bringing the children to Hyderabad to work as labourers.
A case under IPC section 374 (unlawfully forcing any person to do labor against his will) was registered at GRP police station, Secunderabad and further investigation is underway.
The children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee, which directed the police to provide them shelter in a government home for boys, the release said.
