AGRA: Ten years after Salim Ahmed (now 80) filed a case against his 19-year-old son Shahnawaz Ahmed for the murder that sparked the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, a trial court has now started hearing the case.
The first hearing of the matter took place earlier this week and the next hearing, which will include cross-examination, has been fixed for July 18.
The case dates back to August 2013, when Shahnawaz, a resident of Kawal village in Muzaffarnagar, was allegedly murdered by cousins ​​Sachin Singh and Gaurav Singh, and six others. The SIT closed the case in December 2013 after giving a clean chit to six of the eight accused and filed a closure report in the court stating that “the victim was murdered only by Sachin and Gaurav”. After this Shahnawaz’s father Salim Ahmed approached the court and challenged the SIT report.
Hasan Mohsin, a lawyer representing Ahmed in the case, told TOI, “After Shahnawaz’s murder, a case was registered at Jansath police station against Gaurav, Sachin, Gaurav’s father Ravinder Singh, Prahlad Singh under various IPC sections including murder I went.” Bishan Singh, Tendu, Devendra and Jitendra Singh.
When the SIT gave a clean chit to six of them in December 2013, Shahnawaz’s father challenged the SIT probe in a lower court, from where the case file was transferred to another court.
Mohsin said: “The matter dragged on so much that the court finally took note of the petition and allowed a private complaint to be filed on May 3, 2018, following which the court summoned all the accused and months later issued an impeachment order Did. bailable warrant.
After this the accused surrendered before the court and were sent to jail. Meanwhile, Ahmed told TOI on Saturday, “I have been waiting for justice for so many years. Now that the trial has started, I have full faith in the judiciary.
Incidentally, in the Sachin and Gaurav murder case, the court in 2019 found seven residents of Kawal guilty and sentenced them to life imprisonment. All these seven are currently lodged in Agra jail.
