Complaint filed against Ram Gopal Varma for controversial tweet about Draupadi and Pandavas, filmmaker’s reaction – Times of India

Ram Gopal Varma Known for speaking his mind on social media and often in the news for his tweets. His latest post has also created controversy. Recently, the filmmaker had tweeted, “If Draupadi is the President then who are the Pandavas? And more importantly, who are the Kauravas?”

Soon after, Telangana BJP leader, Gudur Narayan Reddy criticized his remarks against the filmmaker for National Democratic Alliance (NDA) presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu. “This tweet is tantamount to insulting SC and ST people. Here, he calls ‘Draupadi’ as the President. We would not have objected if he had only mentioned Draupadi, Pandavas and Kauravas. We, the BJP Activists are hurt by such comments by RGV,” Reddy told ANI. Ram Gopal Varma soon tweeted a clarification about his comments and wrote, “It was said in just an earnest irony and no other Not by the way.. Draupadi is my favorite character in mahabharat but since the name is so rare, I just missed the respective characters and hence my expression. There was absolutely no intention to hurt anyone’s sentiments. According to Times Now, Ram Gopal Varma’s comments had also angered BJP MLA T Raja Singh, who said, “Verma always tries to be in news by making such controversial remarks.”

Earlier this year, RGV got into the North vs South debate when Ajay Devgn criticized Kichha Sudeep’s statement that “Hindi is not our national language”. Sharing his views on the same, the filmmaker had tweeted, “The premise undeniable ground truth @KicchaSudeep sir, is that north stars are insecure & envious of south stars because a kannada dubbing film #KGF2 made 50 cr And we are all going to see the coming early days of Hindi films.”
