Addressing a public meeting at Raninagar in Murshidabad district on Saturday, Abhishek Banerjee said both the parties “do not utter a single word” against the BJP and its “discrimination” against the people of West Bengal.

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee alleged that the opposition Congress and CPI(M) were only interested in projecting the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee in bad light.

Addressing a public meeting at Raninagar in Murshidabad district late on Saturday, he said both the parties “do not utter a single word” against the BJP and its “discrimination” against the people of West Bengal.

“No Congress leader, including Adhir Chowdhary, wrote a single letter to the people of West Bengal for non-payment of wages for 100 days of work since months. I ask Chaudhary, MP from Baharampur from Murshidabad constituency, whether he had ever taken up this issue with the Centre. Has any CPI(M) leader also spoken about this?” Abhishek Banerjee said.

He is on a public relations campaign in the state since April 25.

“The BJP government at the Center returned financial dues of Rs 7,000 crore to the state for the 100 Days of Work project, thereby depriving 11.33 lakh poor people of their due,” he said.

But, CPI(M) and Congress will never criticize the Central Government for this. They only want to malign the image of our Chief Minister and his party. It is TMC which talks about the problems of the people. We will hold a massive protest in Delhi to force the Center to release the funds.”

The Diamond Harbor MP claimed that the Narendra Modi-led government cannot “deprive” the people of West Bengal of their dues from 2014-19 when the TMC had 34 MPs in the Lok Sabha.

However, after 2019, the number of TMC MPs dwindled and the 19 BJP MPs elected from the state did nothing to raise the issues of the poor despite being their representatives, he alleged.

On the recent incident in Purba Medinipur district, in which a car in the convoy of Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run case, Banerjee said, “A youth was run over by a BJP leader’s car. But, there was no statement from the party.” Reacting to his comments, WBPCC president Adhir Choudhary said, “How many times in Parliament have TMC leaders including Abhishek joined the opposition camp in our fight against the undemocratic central government Are? In the interest of West Bengal, the Congress has always raised its voice in the national capital.” Meanwhile, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said that in the recent past besieging itself on multiple fronts, the TMC was facing an “unfortunate road accident”. It is trying to divert the attention of the people by exposing it, for which the saffron party is not responsible.
