Cops save 76-yr-old freezing & stranded at Kondhali bus stop Nagpur: A 76-year-old man | Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: A 76-year-old man, who was too ill to say anything beyond his name, Mohan Chavan of Wardha, was found almost freezing to death on the night of January 24 near the Kondhali bus stand.
Without trousers, and only a cloth wrapped around him, Chavan was rescued by the cops and shifted to a private old age home near Buti Bori, some 80km from Kondhali.Assistant police inspector Pankaj Waghode of Kondhali police station said there was no time to approach a court to get an order for admission at a government shelter home.
“Some passers-by noticed the famished elderly man shivering in the cold. They alerted me. I went to see and realized that it would be impossible for him to survive the night in the cold,” said Waghode, adding the man had meagre belongings, some food and two dirty water bottles.
Waghode said the man was first cleaned up and then provided some clothes. “We also arranged for a quilt. Then, we cleaned him up before taking him to the local primary health centre for check-up and medical examination,” said the API.
“I knew an old age home run by a NGO, where our family celebrates birthdays. It was around 80km away, but I had no other option at 3.30am to take the man,” said Waghode. He added SP Harssh A Poddar and IG Cherring Dorje had been regularly urging cops to believe in community policing and help citizens.
