Kalyani, whose marriage was fixed with another person in May, eloped with her lover Jitendra Sonawane had garlanded each other in a temple a month back. Kalyani was taken to a private hospital but she died due to excessive bleeding. The people present at the venue caught hold of Himmat and thrashed him. He was arrested after the hospital got permission to discharge him. As per the details of the case, Kalyani’s family had arranged her marriage on May 29 with a man named Manoj alias Kailash. However, she was in love with Jitendra and they eloped a week before her wedding day. They marry informally in a temple and later present themselves at a police station, where Kalyani consents to live with Jeetendra, who works in a saree packaging unit.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone-2, Bhagirath Gadhvi told TOI: “Himmat’s father Vamana and Kalyani’s father Ravindra are siblings. After eloping she started living with Jitendra. Incidentally, his house is in the same society where Himmat and his family lived.
“Himmat was extremely ashamed and angry at running away from his home and getting married against the wishes of the family. When the couple decided to get married as per the tradition of the community, he took advantage of the opportunity and forced the couple to tie the knot. decided to kill him a day before,” Gadhvi said.
The DCP said, “Prima facie, it is a case of honor killing. But we are probing from all angles. We are also probing whether Kalyani’s family members or any other person was involved in plotting the crime.” ” Limbayat police inspector VA Jograna said, “Since their marriage was not legal at the temple, they decided to conduct the marriage ceremony on June 27.”
According to the police, Himmat’s father Vaman is the eldest of three brothers. Himmat has four siblings, three of whom are from his father’s first wife. Himmat was born to his father’s second wife. He works in the saree packaging unit in MG Market.
