33 people died in 8 states in 2 days: 46% more rain in north-western states; Heavy rain alert for next 4 days in Himachal

Heavy rains flooded roads in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on Tuesday.

Monsoon, which was delayed for a week in the country, has now gathered pace. It has reached entire North West India including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The northwestern states have received 46 per cent more rainfall than normal in 24 hours.

Monsoon will be active for 4 days in eastern, central, north-west and western states of the country. Heavy rain is expected in 18 states in the next 24 hours. In two days, 33 people have died in eight states due to incidents like rain and landslides.

Of these, 9 deaths occurred in Himachal Pradesh, 6 in Mumbai, 6 in Rajasthan, 2 each in Haryana and Punjab. Siblings aged 16 and 17 were washed away in a swollen river in Uttarakhand’s Almora on Tuesday. 5 people died due to lightning in Chhattisgarh. 1 woman has died due to electrocution in Delhi.

Two incidents of landslides occurred in Himachal’s Mandi district in a span of 48 hours. Due to this, the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway-21 remained closed for hours at two places. The jam on this route opened after 20 hours. Around 301 roads have been closed due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh. At the same time, 43 roads are closed in Uttarakhand.

The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rains in Himachal for the next 4 days.
