DC vs PBKS: Punjab Kings knock Delhi Capitals out of playoff race, winning thrilling match

Punjab Kings defeated Delhi Capitals in the 59th match IPL 2023 on Saturday. With the win, PBKS has now managed to keep itself alive. However, DC is out of the playoff race. DC won the toss and decided to bowl in a thrilling game. Electing to bat first, the Punjab batsmen scored 167/7 in 20 overs. On the other hand, despite a brilliant start, the Delhi batsmen could only manage 136/8 in 20 overs. Shikhar DhawanThe team led by K won by 31 runs.

Prabhasimran played a brilliant inning of 103 off 65 balls. When none of the Punjab batsmen could cross 20 on a sluggish pitch, Prabhsimran took his side to a competitive total of 46/3. PBKS bowlers Harpreet Brar (4/30) and Rahul Chahar (2/16) played a key role in collapsing the home side’s batting order.

Despite a good start and a brilliant 27-ball 54 by skipper David Warner, the DC batsmen failed to chase down the target. Warner and Phil Salt got Delhi off to a brisk start but the spin duo of Brar and Chahar took six wickets for just 19 runs as Delhi were reduced to 88/6 in 10.1 overs from 69 for no loss.

Brar dismissed Warner, Phil Salt (21), Riley Rossouw (5) and Manish Pandey (0). Chahar, on the other hand, took the wickets of Mitchell Marsh (3) and Akshar Patel (1) in his quota of four overs. With 66 needed from 36 balls, Aman Khan (16) and Praveen Dubey (16) tried their hand before falling victim to Nathan Ellis (2/21).

Delhi have their next two matches against Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings on May 17 and May 20 respectively. Punjab, on the other hand, have their next two matches against DC and Rajasthan Royals (May 19), which they would like to win to move closer to the playoff qualification.
