Three people, including a fireman, suffered minor injuries when a fire broke out in a multi-storey commercial building at Kinfra Export Promotion Industrial Park near Infopark in Kakkanad on Saturday evening.

As per preliminary assessment, a short circuit caused the fire at the multi-storey building GEO Info Park, which is home to several IT companies.

Around 15 fire tenders from various fire stations and institutions were rushed to the spot. It took hours to get the fire under control. District Collector NSK Umesh said that orders will be given to investigate the incident.

Reportedly, the fire initially broke out in a bathroom on the ground floor before it spread to the entire building with thick smoke billowing out from it.

According to preliminary estimates, the fire has caused a loss of crores.

Fire officers found it difficult to enter the building, and initially operated from outside. There was confusion as to whether anyone was trapped inside, and alerts were sent through IT employees’ organizations sharing information about employees working in the park.

District Disaster Management Authority officials said they were aware of the situation. Of the three injured, one firefighter suffered burn injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital nearby. Two others were injured after breaking window panes to escape the smoke.
