To some, the food combination seemed tempting, while others vehemently objected to the idea of a hard-boiled egg inside a crispy, deep-sweet avocado.

What would you say if presented with a unique dish – avocado stuffed with hard-boiled eggs, coated with egg yolk and bread crumbs, then deep-fried in oil? Will you like it or not? The debate on the success of Dish has been going on on Twitter since last week. In recent years, while the growth of social media, especially TikTok, has given artists, chefs and individuals from diverse backgrounds a platform to showcase their talents, it has also thrown up challenges with food. For instance, a US-based chef named Eric Rivera recently shared a video on social media, which shows a couple making deep-fried avocado stuffed with hard-boiled eggs.

Despite the couple appearing to be enjoying their delicacy in the video, the online community was not ready to see their beloved fruit being manipulated like this. Deep fried dishes sparked debate about the potential health risks of consuming such food.

Chef Eric Rivera shared the TikTok clip on Twitter with the caption, “Cadbury Avocado Nightmare.”

Since it was shared on April 13, the video has been viewed over 59,000 times, garnering mixed reactions from viewers. A Twitter user commented on the video saying, “She always infuriates food items and pretends they are so delicious and divine it makes her palate sing.”

Another Twitter user took a critical stance, indirectly mocking the couple, saying, “How crazy are people who have no idea what they’re doing but really think they’ve done something.”

Another Twitter user expressed his disapproval of the dish, suggesting that there are simpler and healthier ways to prepare the same ingredients. The user commented, ‘Exactly. Instead of preparing these exact ingredients in a simple and healthy way, I end up heating up a whole pot of oil to deep fry a breaded avocado egg and dirtying a bunch of dishes.

Another wrote, “Avocado is a complete food in itself, which sucks.”

Interestingly, before sharing the controversial deep-fried avocado recipe, chef Eric Rivera expressed admiration for a street vendor in Delhi who was making ghevar. The video was originally shared by The Food Ranger, a popular TikTok channel run by vlogger Trevor James, who seemed impressed by the vendor’s skill and ghevar-making process.

Expressing his approval, Eric wrote, “No one is talking, you get to see the whole process, and the food looks totally incredible. My favorite style of video. Did you like the clip?”
