Surat: In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old diamond worker has attacked a 19-year-old girl with sharp weapon and died by suicide after self-immolation in Sarthana police station area in Surat.
Ankit Bhambhana went to the girl’s home in the afternoon of Friday and attacked the girl and her sister. He also tried to embrace the girl after self-immolation.However, she survived and is out of danger.
Assistant commissioner of police PK Patel told TOI, “Both Bhambhana and the victim had an affair for six months as they lived in Om Township of Pasodara. As the families knew about the affair, they stopped talking. Two days ago, the girl got engaged to some other boy as she stopped talking with Bhambhana.”
This has not gone well with Bhambhana and he reached her home with sharp weapon and petrol-like liquid.
He attacked the girl with sharp weapon and bit her sister on the hand.
During the altercation, he sprayed the inflammable liquid on himself and died by suicide. He also tried to kill the girl by embracing her as she got burns on her face, hands and chest.
After the incident, Bhambhana died on the spot before he was saved by the fire officials. Police has filed a complaint of attempt to murder, trespassing and also registered an accidental death case.
Sarthana police inspector VL Patel said, “The victim lived with her parents, brother and sister in the township. When the incident took place, she was with her sister at home. After the burns and injuries, she was shifted to hospital for further treatment. She is out of danger.”
