14-year-old student drowns in Nethravthi River, youth drowns in open well, woman accuses husband of cruelty, gold chain snatched, fisherman’s body found, pedestrian dies | Mangaluru News – Times of India

Mangaluru/ Udupi: A 14-year-old boy drowned in Nethravthi River in Navoor village of Bantwal taluk on Thursday. The deceased is Prajwal Nayak, a Class 8 student of SVS English Medium School, Bantwal. Prajwal, who had gone to the banks of the river, along with his sister and neighbours, accidentally slipped and fell into the waterbody. Bantwal Rural police have registered a case.
Youth drowns in open well
A youth drowned after he accidentally fell into an open well in an arecanut farm at Mankude of Kolnadu village in Bantwal taluk on Thursday.The deceased is Raveendra, 32, a resident of Mankude. Vittal police have registered a case.
Woman accuses husband of cruelty
A woman from Renjala village in Karkala taluk has accused her husband of cruelty. The woman, in her complaint, has alleged that her husband assaulted her twice. She had also mortgaged her ornaments to fund her husband’s passport and visa expenses. She further alleged that her husband had taken Rs 4 lakh from her when he was in the Gulf.
Based on her complaint, Karkala Town police have registered a case against the accused and a relative under IPC Sections 498A(husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and Section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection Of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019.
Gold chain snatched
A chain snatching incident was reported at the Ratha Beedi of Sri Krishna Mutt during the Paryaya festival on Thursday. According to Shareen Begum, miscreants snatched a gold chain worth Rs 50,000 that her four-year-old daughter was wearing, when the family was at a shop. The complainant said that she had seen two unidentified persons, aged between 30 and 35, fleeing the scene. Udupi City police have registered a case.
Fisherman’s body found
The body of a fisherman, who had slipped and fell into the sea from a fishing boat, was found on Thursday. The deceased, Vishwas Kashinath Saranga, 37, was engaged in fishing for the past 10 years. He had ventured into the sea from Malpe port on January 12. He had fallen into the sea, about 40 nautical miles away from the shore, due to the rough sea at 5pm on Wednesday. His body was found at 3pm on Thursday. Malpe police have registered a case.
Pedestrian dies
A pedestrian died after being hit by a speeding two-wheeler at Padubidri on Thursday. The deceased is Mahabala, a resident of Bada Ermal in Udupi district. Though he was shifted to a hospital immediately, he succumbed to his injuries late on Thursday. Padubidri police have registered a case.
