Dilip Kumar’s ancestral home in Peshawar set to become museum; Raj Kapoor’s home to follow suit | – Times of India

The restoration work of Dilip Kumar‘s ancestral home in Peshawar is underway in Qissa Khawani Bazaar of the city.
A source from Peshawar told ETimes, “Dilip Kumar’s home, now owned by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is being restored and falls under the Department of Archaeology.”

While the restoration is ongoing, converting the ancestral home into a museum will take some time, as significant funds are required for the project.

The department is awaiting the release of funds, which will commence after the recent General Elections in Pakistan and the formation of a new government.
Additionally, the source mentioned that Raj Kapoor‘s ancestral house is also under government ownership and will be transformed into a museum.

In an interview in 2021, Saira Banu spoke about the home’s sentimental value to Dilip Kumar. She said, “I have shared his pride and happiness during a visit to the property some years ago. He was so emotional when he saw the house where he spent his lovely childhood in the comfort and security of a large, refined family. I wish the provincial government succeeds in its efforts and sincerely hope that this time the dream comes true.”

Dilip Kumar’s journey from humble beginnings in Peshawar to becoming a legendary figure in Indian cinema is nothing short of remarkable. Born as Mohammad Yusuf Khan in the Qissa Khawani Bazaar area of Peshawar, he was the son of Ayesha Begum and Lala Ghulam Sarwar Khan, a landlord and fruit merchant. Dilip Kumar was one of twelve children in the family.
