District Websites Lack Updates, Cause Confusion | Hubballi News – Times of India

Hubballi: Despite assuming office on Jan 29, the Dharwad deputy commissioner‘s name has not been updated on the district website.
Similar discrepancies are found on the HDMC website, leading to confusion among citizens attempting to conduct transactions or access information. Allegations suggest negligence from govt employees, citing the upcoming elections as a reason for the lack of updates.
Although Divya Prabhu GRJ assumed charge as Dharwad DC on Jan 29, the district website https://dharwad.nic.in/ still shows her predecessor Gurudatta Hegde as Dharwad DC in the contact section of DC’s profile. The ‘Who’s Who’ section of the website is left with just designations like DC, ZP CEO, police commissioner, SP, and HDMC commissioner but does not mention officials’ names, which is the main motto of the section- ‘Who’s Who’.
In the election section, the National Voters’ Day message is still dated Jan 25, 2023, and is not yet updated with this year’s message. In ‘documents/office order’ section, the latest order is from July 1, 2021, which is three years older. In notifications, District Environmental Plan dated Sept 16, 2021, is the ‘latest’ one. Citizens are waiting to see the latest District Statistical Report, while the website has a report till 2020-21.
HDMC website also confuses citizens by not being updated in many sections. In the ward information section, almost all columns are blank, and the section on government notification dates back to Jan 20, 2020, with the notification about the Ward Committee By-law. Though the website shows it was updated in Nov 2023, it has the ‘latest’ DPAR circular dated October 11, 2005, in the government orders/circulars section.
Dr Subhash Babruwad, a retired district surveillance officer-turned-social activist, said that transparency is the key to effective administration. “Govt officials and employees should keep updating the required information on the public domain. Suo motu revelation of certain information is mandatory under the RTI Act. Incomplete information is inconvenient to citizens who log in to pay property tax and carry on other transactions,” he opined.
When contacted, Geetha CD, additional DC of Dharwad, told TOI that she would take action to update the website immediately and thanked TOI for noticing the error. Santoshkumar B Yarangali, executive engineer, IT office, HDMC, said he will update all sections in 2-3 days with the latest information.
