Eight-member Gang Preparing For Dacoity Held With Weapons | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: The Karamadai police on Monday arrested an eight-member gang at Chinna Thottipalayam near Cheran Nagar for preparing to commit dacoity.
According to a police officer, the gang was nabbed during a probe into a stolen car case. “Mohammed Asif Ali, 28, of Malappuram in Kerala, approached us on Monday after he tracked his stolen car to our jurisdiction with the help of the GPS device fixed to it.We found that the car was parked in front of a house at Chinna Thottipalayam near Cheran Nagar.”
When police went inside the house, they found eight people in possession of deadly weapons. They also found six knives in the stolen car.
“During the questioning, the gang told us that they had bought the car from a Kerala-based person and they were preparing for a dacoity after identifying farmhouses in and around Karamadai and Mettupalayam areas,” the officer said.
Based on their confessional statement, the Karamadai police registered a case against the gang under sections 399 (making preparation to commit dacoity) and 402 (assembling for the purpose of committing dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested them. Police also seized the weapons from them.
The officer identified the accused as S Uthman Farooq, 35, of Mahadevapuram near Mettupalayam; S Ansar Ali, 34, of Mangadu in Kancheepuram; G Sivaguru, 34, of Koonimedu in Viluppuram district; K Ramachandran, 33, of Kalaiyar in Sivaganga district; U Jayakumar, 22, and M Rakesh, 24, of Kodungaiyur in Chennai; and B Santhosh, 30, and I Sadiq Ali alias Mohammed Sadiq Basha, 34, of Sirumugai Road at Mettupalayam. He said the house, which belonged to M Sivan, 50, a native of Masinagudi in the Nilgiris district, was taken on rent by Ansar Ali, one of the arrested.
“All the eight were produced before a judicial magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody, on Tuesday. We have launched a manhunt for the person who sold the car to them,” the officer said.
