The Eknath Shinde government of Maharashtra has withdrawn the suspension order of former Mumbai police commissioner Parambir Singh. The government has also dropped all the charges against him. The government has said that the suspension period will be treated as on duty. The state government suspended Parambir Singh in December 2021. Parambir is a 1988 batch IPS officer.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis told that the CAT (Central Administrative Tribunal) in a judgment had called the departmental inquiry of Parambir Singh wrong and ordered it to be closed. CAT also termed his suspension as wrong and asked to withdraw the order. Accordingly this decision has been taken.

  • On 25 February 2021, there was a blast in a vehicle outside Antilia’s house, home of business tycoon Mukesh Ambani. In this case, the police officer secretary Vaze was arrested. During the investigation of the case, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh had alleged that the then Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had asked Sachin Vaze to collect Rs 100 crore every month. Parambir Singh had made these allegations in a letter written to the then Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
  • On March 17, 2021, Parambir was removed from the post of Mumbai Police Commissioner. He was made the General Commander of the Maharashtra State Home Guard.
  • In 2021, the then Uddhav government started a departmental inquiry against Parambir.

Param Bir Singh was also accused of extortion and corruption. A case of extortion was registered in July 2021 against Parambir Singh and 28 others including six police officers. He is accused of extorting money from a builder.

Complainant Ketan Tanna had alleged that Parambir Singh had extorted Rs 1.25 crore from him as Thane Police Commissioner from January 2018 to February 2019. Param Bir Singh had threatened to implicate him in serious criminal cases.

Mumbai’s bar owner Vimal Aggarwal had filed a case against former police commissioner Parambir Singh, Sachin Vaze, Sumeet Singh alias Chintu, Alpesh Patel, Vinay Singh alias Bablu and Riyaz Bhati for extorting Rs 9 lakh from them. In this case, the Goregaon police called Parambir several times for questioning, but he did not appear. After which first bailable and then non-bailable warrant was issued against him.

After this case Parambir remained missing for 232 days. After this he reached the crime branch office in Mumbai where he was interrogated.

Thane police had issued lookout notice
Mumbai’s Thane Police had issued a lookout notice against Parambir Singh in July 2021. He was not appearing before the Chandiwal Commission. This commission was formed by the state government to investigate the allegations of corruption leveled by Parambir against former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
