The French judiciary has launched a war crimes investigation into the death. AFP Reporter Armen Soldin was killed in Ukraine, anti-terrorism prosecutors said on Wednesday.

Soldin, 32, died when he and his AFP Collaborators with Ukrainian troops were attacked with Grad rockets on Tuesday near Chasiv Yar in eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region.

Prosecutors said the French investigation would be handled by the OCLCH, an investigative unit specializing in crimes against humanity and hate crimes, and would seek to determine the exact circumstances of Soldin’s death.

The number of journalists, fixers or drivers of media teams killed has risen to at least 11 since Russia invaded Ukraine more than a year ago, according to advocacy groups.
