Ganjam Cops Launch Early Morning Patrolling To Curb Accidents | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Berhampur: In a bid to prevent road accidents caused by drivers feeling drowsy at the wheel, Ganjam police have launched a drive to conduct vehicle checking and spray water on the faces of motorists, if required, especially during from 3-7 am. Besides, the police personnel will also check for drunken driving.
“We have seen that most of the major road accidents occurred as drivers fell drowsy during the wee hours and in the winter.As winter has already set in, we have directed officers of all the police stations to conduct vehicle checking and check the driver’s condition during the early morning,” said SP (Ganjam) Jagmohan Meena.
He said they have instructed all IICs of police stations to assign the duty to a group of policemen on rotation basis before 3 pm to conduct the checking smoothly. “During checking, they have to carry water sprayers to wash the face of drowsy drivers and breathalyser to detect drunken driving,” said the SP.

The victims were residents of Lehal village. The incident occurred when the car driver collided with the MNREGA workers while driving recklessly and at high speed on the wrong side of the road. The accused driver has been charged under sections 279 and 304A of the IPC.
