Hanuman Jayanti Peaceful In Sambalpur | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Sambalpur: Heavy security was deployed across the city on Sunday to ensure peaceful Hanuman Jayanti celebrations, following violence last year.
Official sources said 25 platoons of police forces were deployed along with one company of CRPF in specific areas here to assist district police in maintaining law and order during the celebrations. Three additional SPs and 12 DSPs closely monitored the festivities along with 60 inspectors and SIs.
“There was no report of violence. We had deployed heavy security in areas like Bhutapada, Sunapali, Motijharan, zilla school, Pensionpada, Daleipada and Golbazar to avoid any violence. Drone survey was also carried out,” said Haresh Pandey, additional SP.
“As no rally or procession is allowed, devotees celebrated the festival in temples and their periphery areas. They played loudspeakers after getting approval from the administration. We were asked to carry out patrolling till 10 pm but were vigilant even after that,” he added.
The decision to prohibit processions and enhance security measures was taken after 15 people were injured, including police personnel, due to stone-pelting last year during a bike rally organised by various committees ahead of Hanuman Jayanti.
Two days later on Hanuman Jayanti, a youth of Sanasinghari village was stabbed to death on the Mahanadi ring roa, leading to more violence.
