HC disqualifies PoK ‘PM’ for contempt – Times of India

On Monday, the court had given notice to Ilyas to explain his position with regard to “derogatory remarks about the superior judiciary in his speeches in public meetings”.
Ilyas has been asked to appear before the High Court and the Supreme Court separately on Tuesday, in a notice sent through the Principal Secretary to Ilyas.
Ilyas appeared before the High Court in the morning, where a full bench headed by Justice Sadaqat Hussain Raja, heard. During the proceedings, three clips featuring Ilyas were played, after which he said: “I unconditionally apologize if any of my words have offended the judges. I place myself at the mercy of the court.
The court later rejected his apology and sentenced him to stay till the rising of the court.
The court, in its written order, said it was apprised through social media that Ilyas was “consistently using derogatory statements against the Supreme Judiciary”.
The order states that Ilyas has admitted the remarks and also refrained from making “any further objection or reply” in response to the notice issued.
The order stated that since Ilyas was “punished by the court”, he was disqualified from being a member of the Legislative Assembly and holding any public office for two years.
Following his disqualification, Elias contacted the territory’s “SC” where he again apologized for his remarks. However, the “SC” adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
Commenting on the development, PTI leader fawad chaudhary Said that it is necessary to respect the decision of the court.
