Hc Sets Aside Interim Stay Order On Sarania’s Caste Status | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday set aside an interim order of a single bench through which the latter had put a stay on State Level Caste Scrutiny Community (SLCSC) and the state govt’s decision to cancel the ST(P) status of sitting Lok Sabha MP from tribal-reserved Kokrajhar seat in Assam Naba Kumar Sarania.
The bench of Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice Suman Shyam, while hearing a petition of the state government challenging the single-bench interim order passed on March 27, said in its order that “allowing Sarania to contest the ensuing parliamentary elections on the strength of an interim order may lead to further chaos and complications in case the writ petition is decided against him.”
“We are of the view that the impugned order passed by the single judge cannot be sustained and the same is therefore set aside,” the bench stated.Sarania, a former Ulfa commander, is running for a third term from Kokrajhar which will go to the polls in the third phase on May 7.
