Hit By Train, Three Of Family Die | Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: In a suspected case of suicide, three members of a family died after being hit by a speeding train on a track between Podanur and Coimbatore railway stations on Thursday evening.
Police identified the deceased as Varalakshmi, 45, a tailor, her son Yuvaraj, 16, a Class XI student, and daughter Janani, 15, a Class X student, all natives of Thoraipakkam in Chennai.
A police officer said Varalakshmi’s husband Vinayagamurthy had gone missing two months ago. “The family members were depressed after that. Varalakshmi, along with her children, came to Coimbatore on March 29 on the pretext of visiting a temple. Since her relatives were not able to reach them, they had lodged a missing person complaint with the Thoraipakkam police in Chennai a few days ago.”
Meanwhile, the trio were hit by a speeding train near Nanjundapuram in Coimbatore city around 5pm on Thursday. “The loco pilot alerted the railway officials and police, who sent the bodies to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. We suspect they might have committed suicide after they failed to trace the whereabouts of Vinayagamurthy,” the officer said.
