HCS Officials and Tehsildars Arrested for Corruption in Gurgaon – Latest News | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: The anti-corruption bureau’s team in the city registered 43 cases and arrested 78 people, among them some senior civil service officials and police officers, over the last year.
In 2022, Gurgaon ACB registered 46 cases and arrested 62 people, including govt officials. Those arrested this year include Haryana Civil Service (HCS) officers, employees of cooperative societies department, tehsildars, district education officers (DEOs), school principals, fire department officers, and officials of the irrigation, excise, revenue, audit and police departments.
The jurisdiction of the Gurgaon office covers the city, Rewari, Nuh and Mahendergarh districts. There are six other offices of the bureau in Haryana. A senior ACB official said on Sunday that govt has been emphasizing on eradicating corruption at all levels. “A clear message has been given to look for senior govt officials who often use the junior staff or civilians to act as middlemen in the bribe collection chain,” an ACB investigator said.
Apart from keeping a watch on the corruption, the bureau is also encouraging the public to report corruption and cultivate a network of informants. ACB is working to attach the properties of corrupt officials.
“In 2023, ACB initiated proposals for attachment of the properties of public servants involved in corruption cases. After obtaining the concurrence of govt, petitions have been filed for attaching properties earned out of proceeds of crime in six cases, which are at advanced stages,” ACB chief and Haryana police chief Shatrujit Kapur had said last month.
But despite the number of cases and arrests, Haryana ACB’s conviction record is just 33.3%, lower compared to other states such as Delhi and Rajasthan (both have over 50% conviction rate).
The investigator quoted above said that the bureau is working to improve the conviction rate under the Prevention of Corruption Act by thoroughly gathering evidence. Results will be seen in a few years, the investigator added.
Those arrested in 2023 include assistant registrars of cooperative societies department Anu Koshish and Ram Kumar. They were held in the Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) scam. Others are HSC officer of 2016 batch Vakil Ahmed, Gurgaon tehsildar Darpan Kamboj, Nuh district education officer (DEO) Rampal, Rewari assistant divisional fire officer Sajjan Kumar, provident fund inspector Munish Narang, junior engineer at Sohna Municipal Corporation Om Prakash, Tax inspector Shiv Pal, excise inspector Bijender and SI Chetan Sharma.
