Hyderabad: 10 people have contacted in the last 24 hours only Cyber crimes Police stations of three police commissionerates of the city have complained that they have suffered a loss of ₹80 lakh from cyber fraudsters who promised them good returns for doing part-time jobs.
While most of the victims are from the software industry, an electrician, a businessman and a banker have also fallen prey to the fraudsters’ tricks.
G Ramesh (name changed), a 34-year-old software employee from Nizampet, lost 22 lakhs in a span of 10 days from July 1. lured by fraudsters Ramesh 40,000 was given to him on the first day and he kept depositing more money in the hope of good returns.
It all started on June 22 when he received a message on the Telegram app from Rashmika, an HR manager at a private firm, offering commission for doing part-time work. “The job was simple. They gave 28 tasks in three sets in a day and I have to rate their clubs and hotels on the provided webpages to get commission. The complainant said, I registered on a webpage link given by Rashmika and initially received 11,300 after completion of work.
As the fraudsters introduced themselves as representatives of a leading club chain, she believed them and as per their instructions, started depositing 50% of the amount to unlock the virtual account, showing a profit of lakhs of rupees . Cyberabad police said, “After depositing 22 lakhs, he realized that he was being cheated and lodged a complaint with us.”
R Rama Reddy (name changed), a 30-year-old businessman from Moosapet, suffered a loss of 19 lakhs within a week. The fraudsters lured him to give 11 thousand first. Rama Reddy was asked to improve the rating of the hotel and cafeteria on Google Reviews. He said, “I was asked to send screenshots of ratings and reviews done on their web page link to get a reward of 150.”
Initially after paying a nominal amount towards registration fee, the fraudsters asked Rama Reddy to transfer the huge amount to get a higher commission. But, he didn’t get any return later and he suffered a loss of 19 lakhs.
