NAGPUR: The city is likely to lose 5 acres of greenery and open space to a proposed project on the lines of the Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV). Shivsrishti Developed in Pune. The Board of Trustees of NIT met on Friday and decided to change the user of PDKV’s land if felt necessary for the proposed project. The NIT said in a press release that Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis directed the civic agency to plan the project.

NIT has selected an open space of PDKV located opposite Gorakshan on Wardha Road. This land is for animal husbandry and dairy development.
Shivsrishti in Pune is a historical theme park that depicts the life and valor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. NIT has proposed to make replica of 14 forts won by Shivaji Maharaj, 10 light and sound shows based on his life, murals, paintings etc. The PDKV had already proposed to develop a parking lot on half an acre of land situated behind the Gurdwara at Ramdaspeth. The site is adjacent to the area selected by NIT for the Shivsrishti project.
The government had referred to PDKV’s agricultural land as the lungs of urban areas and said that they should not be allocated for purposes other than agriculture. Yet, one or the other project has been planned in these open spaces and the PDKV is giving approvals.
The NIT Board headed by Chairman Manoj Kumar Suryavanshi has also proposed the construction of a 345 bedded multispeciality hospital on a vast land located at Wathoda. The civic agency had proposed the project as per the request of East Nagpur MLA Krishna Khopde.
Khopde said, “Three people fraudulently sold the land of NIT. I came to know and informed NIT. After this Suryavanshi lodged a complaint with the police and demolished a compound wall of the encroachers. The police registered a case against three people, but did not take any action later. Fadnavis assured to sanction funds for the project. The estimated cost of the project is ₹187.71 crore.”
The Board of Trustees of NIT also decided to start Radiology, Pathology Center and Subsidiary Hospital in the Community Hall constructed at Somalwada. A private operator will be appointed to develop and operate the facilities.
The board passed a resolution to develop Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Hall and Sports Complex in the vast abandoned land adjacent to Sakkardara Lake. Earlier, the NIT had proposed to build its new administrative building here, but dropped the plan following instructions from South Nagpur MLA Mohan Mate, who is also the trustee of the NIT.
Under the project, NIT will construct a swimming pool on the ground level, basement parking, commercial shops, restaurant on the first floor and library based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj on the second floor, AC hall on the third floor, sports complex on the fourth floor. 5th floor, and Open Terrace Restaurant on 6th floor.
