A Met Police release on Thursday said Tarsem Singh appeared in court on Thursday on charges of murdering his 77-year-old wife Maya Devi.
A 79-year-old Indian-origin man has been charged with murder after he surrendered and admitted attacking and killing his wife in east London, media reports and police said.

Reports said Singh handed himself in at a police station near the couple’s home in Hornchurch, east London, on Tuesday evening, after which officers arrived with paramedics, where Maya Devi suffered serious head injuries.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers said: “Although one person remains in custody, this is still an active investigation and we are gathering as much information as possible.”
The police have sought any information from the local people regarding the crime, to help them solve the case.
“We have a family desperately trying to understand what happened – your information may give them the answers they need and deserve,” Rogers said.
