Indigenous Muslim Groups Appeal To People To Vote Against Bjp & Safeguard Democracy | Guwahati News – Times of India

Guwahati: Ahead of the first phase of polling in the state, three organisations that represent indigenous Muslims of the state and members of Assam Civil Society appealed to the people to vote against the ruling BJP to safeguard the democratic institutions of the country.
Abdul Mannan, working president of Assam Civil Society, on Tuesday said this election is going to determine the future of the country.“If the BJP wins this time too, they will divide the people of the country based on religion and caste, and will try to destroy the sanctity of the Constitution, which has been guarding the citizens for more than 70 years now,” he added.
He said apart from the divisive politics, the nation has never witnessed this kind of unemployment and inflation since Independence. “Hence, it is our request to every voter who thinks for the wellbeing of the country not to vote for the BJP and rather elect the eligible candidates of the INDIA bloc. We are sure that the people of Assam have already decided to throw the BJP out of power this time,” Mannan added.
In a joint press meet held by organisations like Khilonjiya Asomiya Musalman Unnayan Parishad, Bagh Hazarika Jagaran Mancha, Goria Moria Deshi Janagosthiya Parishad and Assam Civil Society, they accused the incumbent BJP-led govt of betraying the native Muslims of the state in the name of conducting socio-economic census.
“During 2018-19, the then CM Sarbananda Sonowal announced an allocation of Rs 100 crore for the census and for solving the problems of native Muslims. However, the process has not been completed yet. The BJP is trying to gain electoral benefit by announcing that the census will be done just after the general elections,” read a joint statement by the organisations.
The groups also accused BJP leaders, including CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, of disrespecting 17th-century Muslim warrior Bagh Hazarika, who fought against the Mughals alongside legendary Ahom general Lachit Barphukan.
