The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has rejected the appeal of IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan in the alleged land scam case. Chhavi Ranjan had sought two weeks’ time to appear before the agency. Refusing to accept this, the ED has asked him to appear for questioning today itself.

The ED had summoned him on April 21 to join the investigation. Earlier in the land scam case, the ED team had raided several places of Ranjan located in West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand. The agency had also questioned him last week. The agency had arrested seven people, including a Jharkhand government official, following the raids. According to sources, an assistant registrar of the Bengal government has also been called to depose. He has been summoned on May 2.

What is the matter?

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is probing money laundering related to the alleged illegal land sale. In this connection, Jharkhand’s IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan was summoned for questioning at the end of this week. The 2011 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer was asked to give a statement on April 21 at the agency’s office in state capital Ranchi. He was briefly questioned by the agency last week when it raided his and others’ premises in Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal in the case.
